On the onset, Please note, I believe that there is some force above us who are looking down and listening to everything we say.
Nee kadavul, Naanum Kadavul
(you are god, I am also god!)
This is a partial dialogue from the tamil movie “Anbe sivam” …. A Kamal Hassan Movie. One of my favourites of Kamal’s Works.
The situation in the movie is that Madhavan, a hematophobic, donates blood to a Child dying from teh aftermath of a train derailment. however, the child does not survive and Madhavan gets very emotional about it. So kamal says that since Madhavan is shedding tears for an unknown, he shows the traits of a God. and when Madhavan Questions Kamal how he knew, K responds , “Since I am also God”
However, this is not the first time that a kamal movie has had a line about teh greater good. One of his old movies, “Indian” has a song in which there is a line (un vizhiyaal, pirarkkazhudhaal kaneerum anandham andandham) which translates into, if you shed a tear for another human, that tear also is a sign of peace/joy in future.
This makes me think: God does not have a set form. So what exactly are we worshipping? and even if One is a staunch believer, are our duties done with only worshipping god?
what about our duties to mankind?
What am I doing to contribute to the betterment of my fellow humans?
My Parents are my role model for this.. come what may, they have never failed to contribute something to the society… even though it was only in monetary terms and not even significant amounts .. but I do know that for someone, it would have definitely made a difference. And I hope that in the future I am able to do something too..
And not just monetary. The reason i Chose Law was to do something fpr the society. The Honours Course I choose, International law, is a step towards it. and I will make a difference..
P.S. Listen to this song Anbe sivam from The movie ….. its a wonderful song …
